How we operate

Board members provide strategic direction, act as a sounding board for innovation, and ensure our work reflects the needs of our diverse stakeholders.

Their expertise spans hospitality, culture, heritage, transport, and economic development, representing key visitor economy businesses across Cheshire and Warrington, selected via an open recruitment process.

Their purpose includes shaping tourism and place marketing strategy, providing sector insights, horizon scanning for opportunities, and championing Marketing Cheshire across stakeholder groups.

The Chair is invited to participate in meetings of the Cheshire and Warrington Joint Committee and the
Business Advisory Board.

Developing strong
partnerships

Marketing Cheshire is officially accredited by VisitEngland as the Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) for Cheshire and Warrington. LVEP status is central to the Government’s national framework for destination management.

Working nationally

Marketing Cheshire was among the first group of destinations to receive LVEP status and help develop the programme. It places us within a select network of destinations across England. Being an LVEP means we don’t just promote Cheshire and Warrington – we are accountable for leading the visitor economy locally, and for aligning our work with national priorities.

Working directly with VisitEngland on policy, campaigns and research ensures Cheshire’s voice is heard at the highest level. Underpinning this, our Growth Plan for Cheshire and Warrington sets out how the visitor economy will develo sustainably and inclusively in line with the region’s wider Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Strategy, championing quality, skills and inclusivity by raising standards, embedding sustainability and ensuring tourism benefits reach all communities.

PARTNERSHIP

A plan for growth

The Growth Plan is particularly important. It is both a roadmap and
a contract: demonstrating to VisitEngland how Cheshire and Warrington will deliver on national priorities while addressing local challenges and opportunities. It gives us a clear framework for investment, ensures accountability, and helps unlock new funding streams to reinvigorate our sector.

Fostering local collaboration

Destination Chester and Destination Cheshire bring representatives from across the local visitor economy, public and private sector together to discuss strategic topics. This ensures that city, county, and broader regional insights feed into our planning and destination marketing.

Destination Chester operates as the visitor-focused arm of the Chester One City Plan, which guides the strategic growth of the city through a unified vision for tourism, investment, and city development.

Alongside this, Destination Cheshire serves the broader county, aligning tourism delivery with wider economic and place-making strategies across Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East and Warrington. Their involvement in our governance ensures a coherent and inclusive approach to partnership-driven growth.

These partnerships are vital because they create strategic cohesion between city and county priorities, ensuring our Growth Plan and DMP reflect both Chester’s heritage and urban strengths and the wider county’s rural, cultural, and retail assets.

They also align the LVEP strategy with local destination bodies to reduce fragmentation and deliver a seamless visitor experience, while amplifying our collective impact by strengthening access to funding, enabling more powerful campaigns, and positioning Cheshire and Warrington as a distinctive, high-performing visitor economy.
