Adlington Hall star in BBC Drama “Age Before Beauty”

Adlington Hall were delighted to be chosen as the venue for the final episode of the explosive BBC drama “Age Before Beauty” which aired on Wednesday 29th August

The filming took place over 10 days in August 2017 although initial meetings with locations and crew started back in April 2017

The director, Paul Walker was looking for a location for the wedding of Leanne and Wes and wanted somewhere that could exclusively accommodate all the scenes.

Adlington Hall could offer exclusive access for the entire wedding – and also snuck in an extra scene at the beginning of the episode. Yes, Bel’s wedding was also filmed at Adlington.

The filming involved:

  • Close up shot of Bel at her wedding to Teddy in the Dining Room
  • Exterior filming at the front of the hall for Leanne’s Beauty Bus
  • Wedding of Leanne and Wes in the Great Hall
  • Lorelai gives birth in our Writing Room just off the Great Hall
  • Wedding photography in the Rose Garden
  • Wedding Breakfast in the Hunting Lodge
  • Evening reception and final drone scene outside the East range of the Hall

All the cast and crew were very friendly having pictures taken with the staff of Adlington Hall.  Sarah Brown, Event Manager had been in love with Robson Green since his Soldier Soldier days and nearly passed out when she had her picture taken with him.  It’s now her screen saver on both her computer and phone. Although long tiring days, filming is always exciting and we watched the final episode with a smile on our faces, remembering the fab time we had last year.

A little bit about the venue: One of the most beautiful country homes in England, Adlington Hall, home of the Leghs from 1315 was built on the site of a Hunting Lodge in the Forest of Macclesfield in 1040. The highlight of the house is The Great Hall. Two oaks, part of the original building, remain rooted in the ground supporting the east end of the Great Hall. Between the trees stands an organ built by 'Father' Bernard Smith which was played on by Handel and is still operational today. The Gardens, laid out over many centuries, include a Lime walk planted in 1688 and a Regency rockery surrounding Shell Cottage. The Wilderness area includes a Rococo styled landscape garden containing the T'Ing House, a Pagoda bridge and the Temple to Diana. The 60 acres of gardens also include a Rose Garden and Yew Maze.

Adlington Hall and Gardens is an exclusive venue set in 2,000 acres of tranquil Cheshire countryside. Specialising in Weddings & Parties, Corporate meetings & team building along with outdoor public events, Adlington Hall itself houses many centuries of history and character, whilst still holding onto the love and feel of a family owned property.  The beautiful Hall and versatile grounds make an excellent location or backdrop for TV and film productions.  Adlington Hall has worked with BBC for their recent edge of the seat drama “Age Before Beauty”, is regularly transformed into Cackles Academy for filming of the Children’s BBC drama “The Worst Witch”
