Quality in Tourism’s new Star Ratings popular and effective

Some of the UK's most high-profile hotels, B&B's and cottages have now completed their quality star ratings with Quality in Tourism (QT). As an example, three gold winners of the Cornwall Tourism Awards are now under the new scheme; The Headland Hotel in Newquay recently became Cornwall’s first five star hotel, shortly followed by Carbis Bay in St Ives. The Old Barn at Tregonetha, who has won the award for best self-caterer, also achieved a five-star rating.
Additionally, the Watergate Bay Hotel took advantage of Quality In Tourism’s Business Health Check, including a mystery shop overnight stay, to help critique its own standards and deliver its commitment to continuous development.
In its first full year of operating the new schemes Quality in Tourism is delivering a popular and effective alternative to the old “common standards”, striking out to develop a system relevant for the 21st century. QT consulted guests and listened to business owners to create a quality grading system that is relevant and transparent, that puts the customer experience first. QT are helping businesses to improve their service in real terms, benefit from a better customer relationship, and market themselves in a way that is more effective.
The knowledgeable and friendly QT assessors, working as a business partner, are proving a great hit with owners, supporting the new, robust and flexible assessment schemes. Deborah Heather, Director of Quality in Tourism, added “We are delighted that the industry leaders have embraced our schemes, appreciate the partnerships we are developing and the feedback we are offering”.
