Christmas and New Year At Hotel Indigo And Wood Chester

Chester Christmas Markets 

16th November - 22nd December 

Within the heart of Chester browse over 70 traditional wooden chalets at Town Hall Square. Shoppers can grab a mulled wine whilst wandering through local and regional products, crafts, clothing, stocking fillers and a selection of hot food and drinks. The festivities include fizz, real ales, mulled wine, oompah bands, carol singers, live bands, DJs from 11.30am until 9pm.

Christmas Tree Festival at Chester Cathedral 

30th November - 5th January

This family-fun event features over fifty majestic trees decorated by local schools and businesses to reflect the themes of this year, the celebration of water, in support of Adoption Matters and Stick ‘n’ Step.

Winter Watch Parade 

5th December & 12th December 

A procession of light and sound based on Chester’s 15th Century tradition of ‘setting the watch’. This was when the city leaders handed over the keys of Chester to the City Watch and processed around the city to ensure it was secure. The loudest and most colourful parade of Christmas hits the streets, starting from the Town Hall Square leading around the city centre is one of the most popular festive events.

Late Night Christmas Shopping

Shoppers can explore the many boutiques and high street stores across Chester every Thursday for late night shopping until 9pm.

The Lanterns at Chester Zoo 

23 Nov - 23 Dec 

This Christmas, Chester Zoo will transform into a spectacular wonderland filled with illuminations and even some snow! This year the lantern parade features a brand new route including nine different worlds covered with lanterns to fill guests with Christmas cheer, as well as a selection of festive foods available for all the family.

Santa Dash 

1st December 

Watch the festive fun with hundreds of Santas running through the streets of Chester to raise money for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd providing palliative care for residents of Cheshire West, Chester and Deeside. Runners will also raise money for the Countess of Chester Hospital charity which works with the local community, corporates and grant making trusts to raise money for over 80 different funds across the hospital – each one making a real difference to patient care.

Chester Round The Walls Run 

Boxing Day 

One of the oldest multi-terrain races in the UK, being an almost permanent Boxing Day fixture since its inception in 1972. Starting and finishing both on the Roodee Racecourse including parts of East Gate Clock.

The Snowman at Chester Cathedral with live Orchestra plus more 

20th - 21st December 

Chester Cathedral will provide a back to back of classic animated Christmas films for all the family. Starting with The Snowman, a live orchestra will play all the classic songs along to the animation this will be followed by A Donkey’s Tale, The Bear and the Piano and Tchaikovsky’s classic Nutcracker with Tom Scott’s animation.

Winter trail at Dunham Massey

22nd November - 30 December

From mid November Dunham Massey just outside of Chester will turn into a winter wonderland with illuminations, rides, water features, fireworks and a variety of hot food and drinks throughout the trails, deer park and formal gardens.

Free Elf screening 

15th December 

The Grosvenor Museum has the ultimate family feel good morning with a free screening of Elf from 11am until 12.45pm on 15th December.
