Cannon & Ball “Rock On” in The Dressing Room written by Bobby Ball comes to Crewe Lyceum 11th August

On a starry, starry night of entertainment, evergreen double act Cannon & Ball will make you laugh out loud with their original brand of humour.

Bobby Ball’s creation The Dressing Room is a night of pure nostalgia, reminiscent of the much-missed British Comedy seldom seen anymore!

It’s incredible to think this pair has been entertaining audiences for 55 years now - and people just keep laughing at the sketches and jokes that they deliver on stage with such perfect timing.

Bobby’s trademark red braces stretched to breaking point, his catchphrases of ‘Rock on Tommy’ and ‘You Little Liar’ never losing their appeal. And Tommy’s voice hasn’t lost any of its power as he shows in the solo song in the act just before the pair’s heart-warming finale, Through The Years, which they relate to being about their time together.

Support act Johnnie Casson, a familiar face shares good, old-fashioned humour raising plenty of laughs without resorting to swear words or being offensive. He jokes about Blackpool, his family and Yorkshire are rattles the stories off with consummate ease from a master comedian.

Stu Francis plays the show’s golden-suited compere, Billy Tents, whose immortal catchphrase Life Is For Laughing Not Just For Living, and his exaggerated mouthing of I Love You to the audience brings the house down.

Parts of the show have a pantomime feel as the ad-libs to the audience break out. The characters are introduced through scenes in their dressing room. Billy Tents tugs at the heart-strings as he talks to himself in the mirror, bemoaning that all he had to show for all his years on stage was a rented bedsit and a bottle of whisky for comfort while Johnny Laugh (played by Johnnie Casson) made his entrance looking miserable and clutching an urn full of ashes. (The ashes are very personal to him, taking them everywhere, much to the bemusement of the others in the dressing room) If it’s a night of laughter and nostalgia you’re after, then this is it! “The Dressing Room” A play and cabaret as these artists go into their acts on stage. Fun for all the family!
