Maxim scoops prestigious regional business award

MACCLESFIELD College’s dedicated employerresponsive arm - Maxim Business Training - has been named as ‘Team of the Year’ at this year’s North East Cheshire Business Awards, rounding off a truly incredible year for this leading-edge FE institution.

Sponsored by Harts Chartered Accountants, this high-profile and richly deserved award was presented to the Maxim team, led by the College’s Director of Employer Enterprise and Commercial Services Tracy Cosgrave, to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding work it has done in transforming apprenticeships provision across the region.

Launched in October 2015, Maxim Business Training has reacted both positively and proactively to the needs of Cheshire’s burgeoning business community. Key to this, is the delivery of a fully integrated apprenticeships programme to help the region’s young learners gain the best possible start to their professional lives, with responsible and progressive local employers all committed to investing into the next generation of talent.

Four years on from its introduction, Maxim Business Training is now the region’s leading apprenticeships provider, with success rates at both Level 2 and Level 3 provision standing at a commendable 6.8% above the national average, and higher level provision now running at an incredible 19% above the national average, according to figures published in the latest Department for Education (DfE) Performance Tables.

What’s more, in terms of timely achievement and completion of apprenticeships, Maxim and Macclesfield College currently lead the entire North West of England. This is a tremendous accomplishment by everyone concerned, particularly in the light of the radical reforms recently implemented nationally, with regard to the delivery and funding of apprenticeships.

Now in its ninth year, the North East Cheshire Business Awards is the region’s biggest and most prestigious event of its kind, developed by the North Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise to acknowledge, celebrate and reward demonstrable excellence in business across Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Knutsford and the surrounding area.

Taking place on the evening of Friday 8th November at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa in Knutsford, this glamorous awards night was sponsored by a glittering array of highprofile local companies and attended by many key local business figures from across the region.

The team at Maxim Business Training works tirelessly to engage and forge strong and durable links with local employers and, as a result has developed a breadth of provision
that satisfies local and regional skills needs. Due to its success, the Maxim team can now offer a comprehensive portfolio of apprenticeship programmes ranging from Level 2 and Level 3 for school and college leavers, up to and including Level 4 and 5 higher courses that support employees to progress in their current workplace.

All major industry sectors are catered to by Maxim, including Health & Social Care, Construction and Engineering through to Operational and Project Management. What’s more, a wide range of employers across Cheshire and beyond including micro-businesses, SMEs and large blue-chip organisations now regard Maxim Business Training as their first port of call for high quality, fully tailored training and apprenticeship programmes.

“Our success has been down to teamwork across the department,” confirms the College’s Director of Employer Enterprise and Commercial Services, Tracy Cosgrave. “Our sales and delivery teams work closely to identify specific employer needs and develop high quality, bespoke provision, supported by excellent customer service before, during and on completion of the training programmes. As part of our growing team,” Tracy continues, “we currently employ two young apprentices of our own, as well as two former College apprentices who have qualified and now work with us full-time, so we definitely practise what we preach at Maxim.”

Since its launch in October 2015, Maxim Business Training has been the catalyst for unprecedented growth for Macclesfield College regarding employer engagement. Today, Maxim works closely with more than 480 local businesses, and has managed to achieve four-year financial growth of 400%, including 60% growth during the last academic year.

Furthermore, it has been successful in launching and implementing some pioneering training initiatives to benefit the region. These include the delivery of an innovative science healthcare programme which has been rolled out across a number of NHS trusts.

Staying with healthcare, Maxim has also recently been nominated and shortlisted for the NHS ‘Partner of the Year’ Awards. The team has forged an excellent relationship with Macclesfield District General Hospital and has rolled out various bespoke courses to enhance its workforce development, including specialised training for Maternity Support Assistants.

Maxim Business Training has also played a central role in the development and launch of the College’s new Whites Chef Academy. This is a trailblazing concept for East Cheshire that is focused on transforming culinary skills training for 16 to 18 year-olds, whilst renewing their appetite for learning in a real-time, professional kitchen and training environment.

“I am extremely proud to lead the team at Maxim Business Training,” concludes Tracy, “and I feel this award is richly deserved in recognition of all the hard work, commitment, dedication and determination they have shown over the past four years.”
